The Art (and Joy) of Photo Restoration
There's something deeply satisfying about bringing an old, damaged photo back to life. It's not just about fixing a tear or removing a stain — it's about reconnecting someone with a memory they thought was lost. That’s what drives my passion for image restoration.
Every restoration is different. I use a blend of Photoshop and Topaz AI tools, carefully working through blemishes, fading, and distortion. Photoshop gives me full control for pixel-perfect corrections, while Topaz shines in enhancing detail and removing noise without overcooking the result.
Some photos come to me in pieces — literally. Others are discoloured from years in a frame or stuck to glass. It's always a puzzle, and I love the process of putting it all back together, matching tones, rebuilding missing sections, and preserving the original character of the image wherever possible.
I don’t believe in making every photo look modern or overly polished. My goal is always to respect the era, the emotion, and the intent of the original image. Whether it’s a WWII portrait or a candid family snap from the '70s, I want people to see it and feel like they’re holding that memory in their hands again.
It’s easily one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. If you’ve got a photo that needs a second chance, I’d love to take a look.
